FIRST Robotics Championships

Posted by Mattster - April 16th, 2013

Starting next week is the FIRST Robotics Championship for the 2013 season. The team I am mentoring was fortunate enough to double qualify with a win in Toronto as well as the Rookie All-star award.

I'm curious who else here on Newgrounds is a part of FIRST. I was talking to Archawn and it turns out he's a part of it and will be at the championships as well. The championships are taking place in St. Louis at the Edward Jones dome starting April 25th and is free to attend, so if you're in the area, come in and say hi!

Here's a quick video for those who are unaware of what competition is like:

That's a lot more interesting than the robot I had to make for my ME class

It's absolutely fascinating. Average weight of these bots are 100-120(max) lbs. When I first heard about it, I laughed and thought it was like Lego Mindstorms... Oh how I was surprised.

As a former member of a FIRST Robotics team, I always love seeing when other people talk about the competition. Best of luck at the Championship, and keep a look out for my old team, 329!

Thank you!

Went there on GTR East. Team 3541. Man, 1114 and 2056 are so OP.

I was at GTR West... We got selected by 1114/2056 as their 3rd pick... What a day.

"1114 & 2056 OP, plz nerf"

I know someone who was in FIRST, and I might participate next year.

You won't regret it if you do ^_^
